SACRAMENTO, Calif. (Legal Newsline) - The Republican National Committee says Google is "throttling" its emails because of its political views.
The RNC filed suit against Google on Oct. 21 in California federal court, claiming the company has kept its Get-Out-The-Vote campaign from reaching voters - even though the only emails it sends are to individuals who request them.
"Nevertheless, Google has relegated millions of RNC emails en masse to potential donors' and supporters' spam folders during pivotal points in election fundraising and community building," the suit says.
"The timing of Google's most egregious filtering is particularly damning."
The designation of the emails as spam tends to happen at the end of each month, the RNC says, when its fundraising is historically most successful.
"It doesn't matter whether the email is about donating, voting or community outreach," the suit says. "And i doesn't matter whether the emails are sent to people who requested them.
"This discrimination has been ongoing for about 10 months - despite the RNC's best efforts to work with Google."
