TAMPA, Fla. (Legal Newsline) — A couple allege a turbulent flight on Spirit Airlines caused the husband to suffer serious spinal injuries.

George Prance and Cindy Prance filed a complaint Oct. 7 in Hillsborough County Circuit Court against Spirit Airlines Inc., alleging negligence.

According to their complaint, the Prances were passengers on a Spirit flight from Louis Armstrong New Orleans International to Tampa International Airport on April 10, 2021. They allege that during their flight, the aircraft flew through several patches of extreme weather that resulted in severe turbulence that lasted more than 20 minutes.

The Prances claim that the turbulence caused George Prance to shake and bounce "violently" in his seat even though he was wearing his seatbelt. They further claim that after landing, he began to experience pain in his right leg and later had trouble urinating, lost muscle control and could hardly walk.

The plaintiffs also claim that George Prance was transferred to a hospital and diagnosed with Cauda Equina Syndrome and required surgery for lumbar region decompression. They further claim he required nearly a month in a spine center rehab center, required a wheelchair and then graduated to a walker and still can not walk on his own. The Prances allege Spirit failed to exercise reasonable care in the safety of its passengers and failed to properly train and supervise their flight crews.

The Prances seek monetary relief, trial by jury and all other just relief. He is represented by Steven Marks of Podhurst Orseck PA in Miami.
