Ogletree Deakins Expands Workplace Safety Practice into Ohio, Welcomes Duo to Cleveland

Ogletree Deakins, one of the largest labor and employment law firms representing management, is pleased to welcome Scott Gedeon as a shareholder and Michael Reidy as counsel in the firm’s Cleveland office. Gedeon and Reidy join Ogletree Deakins from Fisher Phillips, where they were a partner and of counsel, respectively. Their arrival comes on the heels of a flurry of growth for Ogletree Deakins in Ohio, including the opening of the firm’s Columbus office last week and the addition of a trio of attorneys in the Cleveland office earlier this summer.

“Scott and Mike have a depth of workplace safety and trial experience that will complement our offerings in Cleveland and deliver immediate value to our clients here,” said Bruce Hearey, office managing shareholder in Cleveland. “It is clear that they embody Ogletree Deakins’ values and penchant for client service. We are thrilled to have Scott and Mike join our talented and growing Cleveland team.”

Gedeon will expand the capabilities of the firm’s nationally regarded workplace safety and health practice group into the Cleveland market, where he has practiced for more than 15 years. He is an experienced trial lawyer who regularly handles complex multi-party employment litigation and has obtained several defense verdicts for employers in high exposure cases involving claims of serious workplace injury and disability. Gedeon also regularly counsels employers on a broad range of workplace safety and health issues including Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) compliance and proactive measures they can take to mitigate workplace violence and accident litigation. In addition, Gedeon maintains an active workers’ compensation defense practice, helping employers in Ohio and across the nation.

Gedeon is a frequent presenter on myriad labor and employment law topics impacting businesses of all sizes. He earned his J.D. from the University of Akron School of Law, an M.A. in psychology from Cleveland State University, and his B.A. in psychology from Ohio University.

Over the course of his career, Reidy has served as an in-house program administrator for one of Cleveland’s Fortune 500 companies and was an employer himself for 15 years. His practice focuses on Ohio workers’ compensation defense litigation and counseling, including trying over 60 cases to jury verdict. Reidy is a frequent speaker and author on Ohio workers’ compensation issues. He earned his J.D. from Case Western Reserve University School of Law and his Bachelors from the University of Akron.
