Duane Morris LLP and Curley, Hurtgen & Johnsrud LLP announced today that Curley, Hurtgen & Johnsrud will be merging their boutique labor and employment practice into Duane Morris. The combination will substantially expand Duane Morris’ Employment, Labor, Benefits and Immigration Practice Group, adding 18 attorneys. The combined practices will operate as Duane Morris LLP as of the beginning of October 2022.
For more than a decade, Curley, Hurtgen & Johnsrud has been advising clients on a full range of employment issues, including employment litigation; restrictive covenants, unfair competition and trade secrets; business restructuring and downsizing; traditional labor law; executive compensation; and training and compliance. With offices in New York, Philadelphia and Menlo Park, California, the addition of Curley, Hurtgen & Johnsrud’s highly skilled labor and employment attorneys will enhance an already robust, global practice, deepening the range of skills and services available to clients of both firms.
“This is an exciting growth event for Duane Morris. Of course, we are thrilled that our firm has been recognized as a standout among top-tier law firms by this group of sophisticated and talented lawyers. Combined with our global platform and portfolio, our longstanding tradition of collaboration and collegiality truly offers a best-of-both-worlds opportunity: They will now have the resources of a larger firm with an intimate, cultural feel,” said Matthew Taylor, Chairman and CEO of Duane Morris. “Our employment practice is expanding and we are committed to its ongoing success.”
“We are thrilled to be part of Duane Morris and its strong geographic presence on both coasts and throughout the country. Our clients will benefit from this strategic move,” said Mike Curley, founder and managing partner of Curley, Hurtgen & Johnsrud. “Along with its industry-specific, go-to-market approach, we are pleased to have new opportunities to expand our capabilities into existing Duane Morris practice areas and clients,” added Brian Johnsrud, co-leader of Curley, Hurtgen & Johnsrud LLP and leader of the firm’s West Coast practice.
“This group significantly enhances our complex litigation and counseling capabilities and bolsters our geographic presence in strategically important regions,” said Eve Klein, chair of Duane Morris’ Employment, Labor, Benefits and Immigration Practice Group. “As the marketplace continues to create new challenges for employers, Duane Morris will continue to be a sought-after firm for clients seeking innovative legal perspective.”
The group will operate from Duane Morris’ existing office locations in New York, Philadelphia and Palo Alto, California.
