SAN DIEGO (Legal Newsline) - Johnson & Johnson faces a class action lawsuit over titanium dioxide in its Tylenol, a trend in litigation that has already hit the manufacturer of Skittles.

Valerie Morrison filed the lawsuit Aug. 29 in San Diego federal court, with lawyers from Fitzgerald Joseph as her representation. The lawsuit claims accumulation of the titanium dioxide in the human body can cause problems in the liver, spleen, kidney, brain and lungs.

Seven versions of Tylenol contain it, the suit claims.

"Despite knowing that safety concerns with additives are material to reasonable consumers, J&J regularly and intentionally omitted, and continues to omit, material information regarding safety concerns associated with consuming the TiO2 in Tylenol," the suit says.

"Nowhere on the label of Tylenol containing TiO2 does J&J disclose those safety concerns."

Law firms have filed competing class actions over Skittles, and makeup companies face a similar titanium dioxide case.
