SAN FRANCISCO (Legal Newsline) - Tesla rushed its Autopilot system to market, a class action lawsuit alleges.

The suit, filed Aug. 26 by lawyers at Bursor & Fisher, says the Autopilot on Tesla vehicles contains a defect that causes sudden and unintended braking. This occurs when Autopilot detects non-existent obstacles.

"Many Tesla owners have reported significant, unexpected slow-downs and stops due to the false engagement of their Class Vehicle’s braking systems, even though no objects were nearby," the suit claims.

"When the Sudden Unintended Braking Defect Occurs, they turn what is supposed to be a safety feature into a frightening and dangerous nightmare. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has fielded hundreds of individual complaints in the last three years from drivers of Tesla vehicles."

Tesla is already fighting a lawsuit that says the Autopilot system lacked adequate crash avoidance, which killed David and Sheila Brown in a high-speed accident.
