SAN FRANCISCO (Legal Newsline) - Lawyers are targeting The Honest Company, accusing it of lying to customers about its plant-based wipes.

The firms Clarkson Law Firm and Crosner Legal filed suit Aug. 10 against The Honest Company in California federal court, through plaintiffs Catrice Sida and Kris Yerby. The suit alleges violation of California's Unfair Competition Law, False Advertising Law and Consumers Legal Remedies Act.

The suit concerns Honest-brand plant-based wipes.

"However, contrary to the labeling, the Products contain numerous ingredients that do not come from plants whatsoever, including artificial or synthetic ingredients," the suit says.

"In addition, the Products contain ingredients that, although they may have been originally derived from raw plant materials, were subjected to substantial processing, such as chemical modification or processing, that materially altered their original plant composition."

The suit lists several ingredients that "are not water or plants," like citric acid and sodium benzoate.
