Target sued for claiming hydrogen peroxide can treat cuts and abrasions

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (Legal Newsline) - Target faces a class action lawsuit because it claims its hydrogen peroxide can be used for treatment of minor cuts.

Plaintiff John Solak and his attorneys, Spencer Sheehan and James Chung, filed suit Aug. 1 in New York federal court, alleging customers are misled by the claims on the front of its bottles of hydrogen peroxide.

The suit says hydrogen peroxide has antiseptic properties but studies "advise" that it doesn't help treat minor cuts and abrasions.

"While the bactericidal effects of hydrogen peroxide can help clean a cut or abrasion and initially kill bacteria, its caustic properties negatively affect healthy cells involved in wound healing," the suit says.

"Most minor skin injuries, including cuts, burns, scrapes and abrasions, are self-healing."

Customers are misled into thinking hydrogen peroxide will shorten the time it takes to heal a cut, the suit claims.
