FREEPORT, Ill. (Legal Newsline) - Walmart faces a lawsuit that alleges its Great Value-brand coffee creamer does not contain actual cream.

Attorney Spencer Sheehan filed a class action lawsuit July 1 over a chocolate caramel coffee whitener sold at the retail giant. The suit takes exception to Walmart calling it a "coffee creamer" that is "ultra pasteurized."

It is actually a non-dairy creamer, the suit says, so those claims are misleading.

"In place of cream, the product substitutes water and sunflower oil, the second and third ingredients, to reduce costs," the suit says.

"Cream is known for its 'creamy' taste because milkfat contains hundreds of lactones, aroma compounds which contribute to its taste."

Consumers who prefer actual cream are duped into buying the whitener, the suit says.
