MAGNOLIA, Ark. (Legal Newsline) - The son of a murdered woman is suing the estate of the man who shot her.

Chris Jones' wrongful death lawsuit was filed Jan. 24 in Arkansas' Columbia County Circuit Court. It is filed on behalf of the Estate of Sheila Jones, who was murdered by her husband, Robert Aaron Courtney last year.

Jones and his mother were at the Corner Post in El Dorado on April 20, 2021, when Courtney entered wielding a handgun. The Corner Post is a shipping company.

Courtney forced Sheila into their Dodge Challenger and drove away. Chris called law enforcement, but Courtney shot Sheila, the suit says.

Law enforcement tracked down the Challenger but inside found only Courtney, who later admitted to killing his wife. He led police to the location of her body later that night.

He was incarcerated and charged with capital murder but died while in custody on June 13. The lawsuit makes claims including wrongful death and seeks to recover Courtney's property and any insurance policies.

The plaintiff is represented by Bell, Boyd & McMahen.
