CHICAGO (Legal Newsline) - One of the latest in a trend of class action lawsuits over "Made in America" claims has been filed over the maker of Reynolds Wrap.

Attorney Spencer Sheehan filed his lawsuit Jan. 17 in Chicago federal court against Reynolds Consumer Products over claims made on Reynolds Wrap packaging that it is "Foil Made In U.S.A."

The suit says the bauxite used comes from other countries and that no bauxite mined in the U.S. since 1981 has been used for aluminum.

"U.S.-mined bauxite is used for abrasives, high-temperature refractory materials, and as a high-strength proppant for hydraulic fracturing of oil and gas wells," the suit says. "The largest suppliers of bauxite for aluminum include Australia, Guinea, India, Brazil, Jamaica and Vietnam."

The suit cites Federal Trade Commission rules on "Made in U.S.A." claims. Those rules require virtually all ingredients or components of the product to be made or sourced in America, the suit says.
