Lawsuit: Ford didn't pay for exploded F-350

MELBOURNE, Ark. Legal Newsline) - Ford Motor Company is accused of not honoring its warranty on an F-350 that spontaneously combusted.

Owner Marshall Branscum and Progressive Northwestern Insurance sued Ford on Dec. 20 in Arkansas' Izard County Circuit Court over an April 2020 incident.

The suit says Branscum heard a popping sound and pulled over to check under the hood. Smoke gave way to flames, resulting in a call to the Pinesville Fire Department for help, the suit says.

The truck, which had less than 22,000 miles on it, was destroyed, the suit says. The cause of the fire was found to be a mechanical or electrical malfunction within the engine, the suit says.

Branscum says the F-350 was still in the coverage period for the bumper-to-bumper, powertrain and diesel engine warranties. The suit seeks $56,000 plus attorneys fees and was filed by Jason Ryburn.
