Montgomery McCracken is pleased to announce that Senior Counsel Joel B. Rosen, USMJ (ret.) has been appointed by the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey to serve as chairman of the Magistrate Judge Merit Selection Panel, which plays a role in selecting the next United States Magistrate Judge in Camden, New Jersey.
The panel assists the court in the selection of a United States Magistrate Judge through review of applications, conducting interviews, and making recommendations to the United States District Court. Rosen will join his colleagues on the committee in recommending five candidates for the open Magistrate Judgeship position in Camden.
Rosen is Senior Counsel in the firm’s Litigation Department and concentrates his practice in alternative dispute resolution. Prior to joining the firm, Rosen served as a United States Magistrate Judge from 1987 to 2006. Since joining the firm, Rosen has mediated close to two thousand cases. He has negotiated multimillion dollar settlements and resolved all manner of complex cases and class actions in the areas of employment law, commercial law, environmental law, intellectual property, antitrust, admiralty, civil rights, construction law and torts. He has also served as a Special Master in both state and federal courts, in matters involving mass torts, environmental issues, insurance coverage disputes, as well as a variety of class actions.
Rosen is a former adjunct faculty member of Rutgers School of Law Camden, where he was a mentor to numerous law students. Rosen was longtime member of the Disciplinary Oversight Committee of the New Jersey Supreme Court where he was appointed Vice-Chair by the New Jersey Supreme Court in December 2016. Subsequently, Rosen became Chair of that committee.
