Kara Kapp Named National Law Journal’s 2021 DC Rising Star

Award

Cozen O’Connor issued the following announcement on Nov. 17.

Cozen O’Connor is pleased to announce that Kara Kapp, member in the firm’s White Collar Defense & Investigations practice group, has been recognized among the National Law Journal (NLJ)’s 2021 DC Rising Stars. The Rising Stars award recognizes and celebrates professional excellence of 40 young lawyers who represent a cross-section of practice areas and have “proven their mettle where it counts, representing high-profile clients and securing high-dollar victories.” The recipients were recognized at an awards gala on October 20, 2021.

The NLJ profiled each award recipient in a Q&A. When asked about her biggest “win”, Kara highlighted a recent economic crimes sentencing where she served as lead counsel and successfully advocated for a very favorable, reduced sentence for her client. As to the formula for her success, Kara said: “discover what you love and where you excel as a lawyer. Then find a job that allows you to marshal those talents in service of work you love. And she thanked Barry Boss, her lawyer-mentor, for teaching her “countless lessons” on how to serve clients with excellence, including the greatest lesson of all: “serve every client with empathy and kindness.”

Kara represents Fortune 500 companies, corporate executives, non-profit organizations, and high-profile individuals in civil and criminal matters, including enforcement actions, investigations, negotiations, civil and criminal litigation, and appeals. Her practice has a special focus on representing executives and entities in the cryptocurrency, financial, and sports wagering industries, and in representing foreign defendants. Since 2019, Kara has helped win two landmark non-prosecution and settlement agreements, two immunity-from-prosecution agreements, and two much-reduced sentences.
