The National Law Journal Names Tim Mandelbaum an Entertainment Law Trailblazer

Award

Fox Rothschild LLP issued the following announcement on Nov. 18.

Fox Rothschild LLP is pleased to announce that the National Law Journal has lauded Tim Mandelbaum as a Trailblazer in Entertainment Law, a sought-after distinction that honors agents of change in the legal industry.

Drawing on more than 30 years of experience, both on the company and talent sides of the table, Mandelbaum has designed and brokered innovative deals for major artists and cutting-edge labels, helping them to preserve, protect and maximize the value of their creative assets.

“With the rise of streaming and new distribution platforms, it quickly became clear to me that artists and labels needed to entirely rethink how to capture the full value of new music being created, as well as their existing song catalogs,” Mandelbaum told the National Law Journal in an interview. “We’ve completely reconfigured agreements and distribution strategies for both artists and labels, not only to adjust for dwindling traditional revenue but to capitalize on the opportunities the new model presents.”

As Chair of the Music Law Practice at Fox Rothschild, Mandelbaum has represented major artists and labels in deals that protect and realize the full value of their catalogs in the new streaming economy. His representations include Blondie, Wu-Tang Clan and $uicide Boy$; independent labels like Ten Thousand Projects and 11-7/Better Noise Music; and rising stars such as Chucky 73 and Fivio Foreign. He has also guided pioneering music rights management companies such as Kobalt Music and Hipgnosis Songs, which now has a portfolio valued at more than $1 billion, in acquiring music catalogs via transactions that have forged new paths to profitability in a rapidly changing music landscape.

The former head of business and legal affairs at EMI Records, Mandelbaum is a frequent guest lecturer on issues confronting the entertainment industry. As a member of several industry-focused groups, including the Entertainment Law Initiative of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (NARAS), the Alliance of Artists and Recording Companies (AARC) and as an associate member of A2IM, he is deeply involved in the ever-changing, fast paced environment in which his clients work.

He earned his J.D. from the University of Denver Strum College of Law and B.A. from Duke University.
