Montgomery McCracken Walker & Rhoads LLP issued the following announcement on Oct. 28.

Montgomery McCracken is pleased to announce that Robert “Bobby” E. O’Connor has completed Module 7 (Towage, Salvage, General Average & Wreck Removal) of the International Group of P&I Clubs (“International Group”) Qualification Program (“P&IQ”) with distinction.  Having previously earned his Certificate for completing Modules 1-3, and having recently completed Modules 5 (Cargo Risks) and 6 (Collision, FFO & Pollution), each with distinction, Bobby has now earned his Advanced Diploma.

Since the PI&Q program launched in 2010, it has become acknowledged within the P&I industry, and in the wider insurance market, as a unique and challenging standalone professional qualification. The PI&Q is a rigorous program of education through which those working in or wishing to work in the industry can gain unique and invaluable knowledge of P&I, including the structure of the shipping industry, the history and operation of the International Group, and the different types of liabilities insured.

Bobby is Montgomery McCracken’s New York Office Co-Managing Partner and a member of the firm’s Litigation Department and Maritime and Transportation Practice Group. His primary practice is counseling international and domestic maritime industry clients like owners, operators, and charterers of vessels and their insurers. He has defended high-profile claims of cargo loss and damage arising from major marine casualties such as explosions, fires, collisions, allisions, groundings, and heavy weather incidents pursuant to the Carriage of Goods by Sea Act and the Shipowners’ Limitation of Liability Act. He has handled numerous environmental matters relating to oil pollution, coral damage, and emissions violations under the Oil Pollution Act of 1990, the Act to Prevent Pollution from Ships, and MARPOL. Bobby and Montgomery McCracken’s Maritime and Transportation Practice Group act for several P&I Clubs as local correspondents.
