Jones Day issued the following announcement on Aug. 17.

Jones Day has been identified as an M&A Powerhouse law firm, one of "the leading law firms best suited to meet the transactional needs of clients." The honor is based on unprompted responses from in-depth interviews with more than 325 top legal decision makers conducted by BTI Consulting Group for its M&A Outlook 2022 report.

Ranked in all eight deal categories identified by BTI in its report, Jones Day was one of only three firms to earn the "Powerhouse" ranking (BTI's highest ranking), in six of the eight categories. The categories in which the Firm earned the highest ranking are:

  • Transformative Deals
  • Difficult Deals
  • Deals Attracting Regulatory Scrutiny
  • Cross-Border Deals
  • Public Deals
  • Straightforward Deals
"The pandemic is accelerating trends for which we're uniquely positioned among global law firms, especially because of our integrated One Firm Worldwide service delivery model," said James Dougherty, Jones Day's Global M&A Practice Leader. "Whether our client—or the center of transactional gravity—is in New York, London, or Singapore, we provide the same intensity, responsiveness, and creativity on all transactional matters."

The ranking and comparison of these firms is the product of BTI's annual research with legal decision makers at the world's leading organizations, representing more than 15 industry segments. The interviews were conducted between March 20, 2020 and July 16, 2021, and the legal decision makers interviewed included general counsel/chief legal officers, direct reports to general counsel, and other legal decision makers from organizations with $1 billion or more in annual revenue.

Jones Day earned "Most Recommended" status—for the 19th consecutive year—in BTI's "Most Recommended Law Firms" report for 2021. BTI also ranked Jones Day #1 in its "Client Service A-Team" survey for each of the past five years, and among the "Fearsome Foursome" – the law firms that clients would least like to see as opposing counsel – in its "BTI Litigation Outlook 2021" report.
