NEW YORK (Legal Newsline) -- Attorneys are suing other lawyers for fees from a car wreck settlement.
Kreindler & Kreindler LLP filed a complaint on July 13 in New York County Supreme Court against Cherny and Podolsky PLLC, Aleksandr S. Cherny and Steven V. Podolsky for unpaid fees.
According to the complaint, Kreindler was retained on July 8, 2020, to represent Patricia Matfus as a result of serious physical injuries she sustained as a result of a motor vehicle accident occurring on February 6, 2020.
Kreindler performed and provided extensive legal services singularly responsible for the settlement of Matfus’ claims against the owner/operator Yitzhok Rosman, the firm claims. But the defendants allege that they were retained by Marfus on Feb. 10, 2020, to represent her for the accident as well.
Defendants failed to provide competent or sufficient legal work that warrants attorneys fees or legal representation, and Matfus' case was resulted in a settlement due to the work of Kreindler, the plaintiff alleges. Defendants improperly and without factual justification have alleged and claimed a right to a share of the legal fee and have asserted a lien against the legal fee, the suit says.
Kreindler is represented by David C. Cook of Kreindler and Kreindler.
