Troutman Pepper’s Chris Carlson Receives Prestigious Up & Comer Award from ABA Section of State and Local Government Law

Chris Carlson, an attorney in Troutman Pepper’s nationally recognized State Attorneys General Practice Group, has received the Jefferson B. Fordham Up & Comer Award from the American Bar Association (ABA) Section of State and Local Government Law. The award recognizes young practitioners (36 or under) who have demonstrated excellence in state, local, regional, and tribal government law.

Carlson was selected based on his work in the firm’s State Attorneys General Practice Group and his first-hand government experience, serving as a judicial law clerk to the Honorable David A. Faber in the United States District Court and as a West Virginia Assistant Attorney General. Carlson was nominated by Troutman Pepper Partner Ashley Taylor, who received the award in 1999.

At Troutman Pepper, Carlson is a key member of the firm’s State Attorneys General team, where he develops strategies and manages significant, complex multistate investigations. He is also involved in the representation of companies undertaking data security investigations. Throughout his work, Carlson leverages experience to identify successful approaches to multifaceted investigations and enforcement actions, offering insights far beyond his years.

The ABA Section of State and Local Government Law is a leading association for lawyers involved in urban, state, and local government law and policy. The Section provides timely expert insights and shares ideas and best practices for dealing with government agencies.

Troutman Pepper’s Regulatory Practice Group includes one of the oldest and most well-respected state attorneys general practices in the nation. The Chambers-rated practice includes three former state solicitors general, four former deputy attorneys general, a former deputy solicitor general, three former assistant attorneys general, and attorneys with a wide variety of experience in federal agencies. The practice, which includes two attorneys in the top two Chambers rating bands, has handled investigations involving all 50 states and the federal government.
