Neal Gerber & Eisenberg LLP issued the following announcement on June 10.

Four Neal Gerber Eisenberg practice groups and 15 attorneys have been recognized among the top in the nation in the newly released 2021 edition of The Legal 500 United States.

The firm continues to be recommended in the areas of M&A/Corporate & Commercial: M&A: Middle-market (sub-$500 million);  Intellectual Property: Trademarks Litigation;  Employee Benefits, Executive Compensation and Retirement Plans: Design;  and US Taxes: Non-contentious.

The Legal 500 notes the Corporate & Securities practice group, chaired by John Koenigsknecht, is noted for its “prompt service and great advice.”  David Stone and John Koenigsknecht, co-chairs of the firm’s Cross-Border and International group, are well regarded for their work in the metals and mining space.  Former practice chair Bobby Gerber, now firm managing partner, comes recommended for his practice advising private companies.  Michael Gray leads the Private Equity, Venture Capital and Growth Companies group, which is noted for its “strong offering for entrepreneurs.”

The Intellectual Property practice group was recognized for having “the most in-depth level of knowledge and innovation of any IP practice around,” and for their “ability to think outside the box to come up with highly effective solutions.”  Intellectual Property co-chair Michael Kelber was praised for “giving incredible personalized attention and always going the extra mile.”  Lee Eulgen is well regarded for his “exceptional collaborative problem-solving” skills and his focus on online compliance and data ownership.  Tony McShane is recommended for work with sports franchises, social media companies, and start-ups.  New to the group of recommended attorneys are practice co-chair Tom McDonough and partner David Wheeler.

The Employee Benefits & Executive Compensation practice group was praised for having “skills that are uniquely complementary, which in turn allows the group to truly cover the whole spectrum in terms of the body of law applicable to employee benefits and executive compensation.”  Jeff Bakker and Patty Cain, co-chairs of the group, are noted for being especially active in acting for clients in the financial services sector.  One client noted that Jeff Bakker is "extremely good with clients and has a quite unusual ability to break down and explain in the most simple terms even the most complex benefits law concepts.”  Linda Hoseman comes recommended for her expertise in health and welfare plan governance.

Legal 500 notes the firm’s Tax group is “not only knowledgeable and experienced, but highly creative.” The group is praised for “providing elegant solutions to tax problems that have stumped other fine firms.”  The group is co-chaired by Scott Bakal and John Biek, who specialize in estate planning for high-net-worth individuals, and state-level unclaimed property laws, respectively.  One client highlighted Scott Bakal as “one of the most intelligent lawyers, and people, I get the chance to work with. I deeply value our business relationship.”  Jeffrey Shamberg also comes recommended for his work on the tax aspects of numerous transactions and investment structuring mandates.
