Arkansas juvenile center hit with allegations of physical, sexual abuse

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (Legal Newsline) - A man claims he suffered injuries at the hands of employees while residing in an Arkansas juvenile treatment facility. 

John Doe, who was a minor at the time of the incidents, filed a complaint on May 27 in the Circuit Court of Pulaski County against Youth Opportunity Investments, LLC, Jim Hill, Darrell Williams, Underwriters at Lloyd's and John Does 1-5 for negligence, battery, and liability under the Civil Action by Crime Victims Act.

According to the complaint, John Doe resided in the Lewisville Juvenile Treatment Center operated, managed and maintained by Youth Opportunity Investments, LLC from spring of 2019 until November 2020. 

Doe alleged that during his time in the center, juveniles were disciplined by being shackled for long periods of time, forcefully thrown and/or taken down into walls and floors, having physical force used against them, being forced to sleep in shackles and being locked in a room for long periods of time. 

Doe alleged that his caused him, and others, to suffer physical pain, depression, fear and "other medical injuries." Doe also alleges being sexually assaulted while in the center. Doe alleged he did complain about his injuries but the center failed to comply with their own policies, including not investigating reported incidents. 

Doe seeks damages in an amount adequate to compensate for the injuries and damages sustained, punitive damages, past and future medical expenses and services for his family, costs of litigation and attorney fees. Doe is represented by Jeff R. Priebe.
