NEW ORLEANS (Legal Newsline) - A law firm has brought suit against a former client - a Mississippi plaintiffs firm - for failure to pay and breach of contract.

Attorneys for Schonekas, Evans, McGoey & McEachin, LLC filed a complaint on June 1 in the U.S. District Court Eastern District of Louisiana against The Nicks Law Firm, LLC and Shantrell Nicks for an allegedly unpaid balance.

According to the complaint, Nicks retained the Schonekas firm in 2019 to provide legal services in connection with multiple lawsuits on an open account basis. Schonekas, Evans, McGoey & McEachin, LLC submitted monthly invoices between August 2019 and May 2021 to Nicks for approximately 600 hours defending her.

Nicks was the target of class action litigation by former clients who alleged she mishandled their BP oil spill claims.

As a result of the nonpayment, Schonekas withdrew from the representation of Nicks in all lawsuits in February 2021, the suit says. Schonekas alleges that Nicks remains indebted for the amount of $89,278.87.

Schonekas, Evans, McGoey & McEachin, LLC seeks full payment, judicial interest, and attorneys fees and costs for proceedings.
