NEW YORK (Legal Newsline) — The former agent of New York Knicks center Mitchell Robinson claims Robinson was illegally bribed before he was drafted with a new $34,000 pick-up truck in order to switch to another agent.
David Lee filed a complaint May 11 in New York County Supreme Court against Raymond Brothers, IAM Sports & Entertainment Inc., and International Athlete Management Inc., alleging violation of National Basketball Players Association (NBPA) regulations, tortious interference with contract and negligence.
According to his complaint, Lee entered into a standard player agent contract with Robinson on Sept. 19, 2017, and on March 28, 2018, Lee received a letter of termination from Robinson which stated "effective immediately" despite the contract calling for a minimum of 15 days notice.
Lee claims the defendants approached Robinson three months before the New York Knicks drafted him in the second round of the 2018 NBA draft, alleging they "lured" him with a new 2017 Chevy Silverado 1500 pick-up to switch agents. He claims the defendants interfered with his agent agreement through bribery and in direct violation of NBPA rules and that he suffered the loss of compensation for Robinson's success.
Lee seeks monetary relief, trial by jury and all other just proper relief. He is represented by Brian Brick of Brick Law PLLC in White Plains.
