MIAMI (Legal Newsline) – Pet owners are suing the maker of American Journey food, alleging its grain-free products actually contain wheat.
Attorneys at Greg Coleman Law and Whitfield Bryson on Feb. 22 filed a proposed class action lawsuit in Miami federal court against American Journey LLC and Chewy, Inc. Three products – all of which contain sweet potato - have a significant amount of wheat, they say.
The lawyers reached this conclusion after their own “independent analysis.” One of their proposed lead plaintiffs is a man who lives on a horse farm in Missouri interested in purchasing high-quality dog food to keep his German shepherds and Weimaraners in shape.
“Plaintiff (Paul) Gleitz stopped purchasing the Grain-Free products because his dogs had digestive issues after consuming them,” the lawsuit says, noting dogs can have grain allergies.
“Plaintiff Gleitz did not receive the benefit of his bargain when he purchased the Grain-Free products, as they included ingredients that did not conform to the Grain-Free products’ packaging representations and warranties made by Defendants.”
Had he known there was wheat in the food, he would not have bought it, the lawsuit says.
