Armstrong Teasdale issued the following announcement on Feb. 15.

Armstrong Teasdale announces the addition of Partner Romaine Marshall and Of Counsel Jose Abarca to its Salt Lake City office. They join more than 340 attorneys firmwide.

Since opening an office in Salt Lake City in 2020, Armstrong Teasdale has added several attorneys and staff locally with experience across disciplines including complex commercial litigation, white-collar criminal defense, bankruptcy and financial restructuring, private equity and venture capital, real estate, employment and labor, securities and other regulatory and compliance matters. Marshall and Abarca add in-depth experience to the firm’s robust Privacy and Data Security practice, as well as high-stakes litigation.

Marshall has represented clients in response to hundreds of incidents involving data breaches, ransomware, malware attacks, security misconfigurations, wire fraud, software vulnerabilities, social engineering and other exploits, and in resulting litigation and regulatory investigations. As part of his practice, Marshall works with clients to develop industry-specific cybersecurity programs and conduct risk assessments, and actively collaborates with technical consultants to map compliance with industry standards such as the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Cybersecurity and Privacy Frameworks. Marshall is also an experienced business litigator and trial lawyer.

Abarca is an experienced litigator, having represented numerous companies in matters ranging from ownership disputes to bet-the-company litigation. He often defends clients against multimillion-dollar claims in state and federal court, and before government agencies. In the energy, infrastructure and natural resources sector, Abarca focuses on resolving disputes involving engineering, procurement, master services, purchasing, development and construction agreements. Abarca also works with clients to navigate emerging legal obligations relating to climate change. Abarca also assists clients in responding to cybersecurity incidents. He works with technical consultants to conduct root cause analyses, counsels clients on their obligations to consumers, employees and regulatory bodies, and helps design and implement written cybersecurity and data privacy programs that comply with industry standards.
