NELSO MULLINS: Nelson Mullins Among Firms Honored with Boston Bar Empowerment Award

Award

Nelson Mullins issued the following announcement on Nov. 24.

The Boston Bar Association has awarded Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP with its annual Empowerment Award, along with the 16 other law firms that are participating in the COVID Relief Coalition. The COVID Relief Coalition is an effort across law firms, nonprofits, and government agencies to help small businesses and nonprofits in the greater Boston area swiftly access emergency loans and provide other legal resources to assist on matters such as employment, contracts, and lease issues.

Each year, the Boston Bar presents the Empowerment Award to a powerful advocate who works to create systemic change by amplifying the voices of underrepresented groups and advances civil rights and access to justice to make the Boston community more diverse, equitable, and inclusive.

"The COVID-19 Relief Coalition did just that, by stepping up at the height of the pandemic to provide pro bono legal support and information about sources of emergency relief to small businesses employing people in the community, non-profit organizations serving the most vulnerable, and individuals in our city who needed immediate assistance," said Richard M. Page, Executive Director of the Boston Bar. "The COVID-19 Relief Coalition is an inspiring example of what can be accomplished in a crisis by bringing firms, organizations, and resources together to tackle a problem."

The COVID Relief Coalition was launched in early April by a group of law firms with offices in the Boston area, the Massachusetts Attorney General's Office, City of Boston, Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce, Boston Bar Association, The Boston Foundation, and United Way of Massachusetts Bay. Since then, Nelson Mullins attorneys have helped small businesses and nonprofits in the area learn about and apply for emergency loans and other resources for legal guidance.
