SAN DIEGO (Legal Newsline) – Class action lawyers are taking on lemonade and a company’s claims that it uses natural flavors.
On Sept. 28, the Law Offices of Ronald Marron filed a lawsuit in San Diego federal count against Grand Brands over its True Lemon and True Lime drinks. Its products contain a synthetic flavoring chemical called dl-malic acid, the suit says.
“Defendant adds dl-malic acid to each of its products to create and reinforce the tart and fruity flavors that consumers associate with the fruit listed and depicted on the products’ labels,” the suit says.
“The dl-malic acid that Defendant adds to the products is an artificial flavor that must be disclosed on both the front and back product labels under California and federal law.”
The chemical is made from petroleum, the suit says.
