Orrick Herrington & Sutcliffe issued the following announcement on Sept. 9.
Orrick announced that Shana Solomon, a seasoned advisor to companies in the life science, biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries, has joined the firm as a partner. Most recently, she served as General Counsel of biotech startup Velocity Sciences. Shana will be based in our Boston office and will split her time from her home in Colorado.
“Life Sciences is one of the fastest growing areas of our firm, with 450+ exciting companies at all stages,” said Scott Iyama, leader of Orrick’s Life Sciences practice. “We are thrilled to add Shana as the founding member of our Life Sciences licensing team and to work with her to invest in growing this essential part of our practice.”
Shana brings more than two decades of experience advising public and private life science and biotechnology companies, including serving for seven years as General Counsel of the Biosciences Division of Thermo Fisher Scientific. She has helped her clients navigate the full range of life science transactions – from complex, strategic license and collaboration deals to creating custom agreements for new business models and technical consortium. Shana has also played a key role in life science mergers and acquisitions, where the transfer or licensing of intellectual property was critically important.
“I have been incredibly impressed by Orrick’s innovative and collaborative culture and its leadership in the Tech & Innovation market,” said Shana. “I look forward to working with the team to further build the Life Sciences platform and serve the firm’s terrific portfolio of companies in this space.”
Orrick also announced the addition of technology transactions partner Faraaz Samadi, who joins in London from Milbank.
“Shana and Faraaz are top quality, commercially focused advisors to innovative companies and their financial sponsors, and we are thrilled they are joining us,” said Matthew Gemello, leader of Orrick’s global Corporate practice. “We also look forward to announcing more additions to our tech transactions team soon.”
