NEW ORLEANS (Legal Newsline) – A popular target of litigation in Louisiana hasn’t paid its legal bills, says the law firm that used to represent it.

Curry Law Firm sued Occidental Chemical Corporation on June 20 in Orleans Parish, alleging it is owed more than $150,000 for services rendered when the company switched counsel after a 40-year relationship. Occidental recently removed the case to federal court.

Curry Law Firm says it was retained in 1978 and has served as local counsel in the defense of multiple lawsuits filed through the years until Occidental changed its legal strategy in 2018.

“Petitioner then began the monumental task of transferring Defendants’ extensive file documentation, both paper and electronic, to Jones Walker as requested,” the suit says.

“Moreover, Petitioner and its attorneys continued to respond to and communicate with new counsel at Jones Walker for several months to assist them in getting up to speed in these matters. The remainder of Petitioner’s invoice for that work was then submitted to Defendants for payment.”

Occidental has refused to pay, the suit says. Curry Law Firm seeks $154,000 plus attorneys fees.
