MADISON, Wis. (Legal Newsline) - In the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, the Democratic National Committee and Democratic Party of Wisconsin are pushing for changes in absentee voting to make it easier to cast a vote while social distancing.
They filed a complaint in the U.S. District Court in the Western District of Wisconsin on March 18. The organizations named as defendants Marge Bostelmann, Julie M. Glancey, Ann S. Jacobs, Dean Knudson, Robert F. Spindell, Jr. and Mark L. Thomsen, in their official capacities as Wisconsin Election Commissioners in their lawsuit.
The plaintiffs detailed a number of roadblocks that make it difficult to complete absentee voting, like the registration deadline, the requirements to prove residence, and the notion that absentee ballots have to be counted by 8 p.m. on Election Day.
In their lawsuit, they’re asking the court to step in concerning the process of absentee voting for the upcoming April 7 election.
