REED SMITH LLP: Reed Smith adds Liza Craig to Global Regulatory Enforcement practice

Partnership

Reed Smith issued the following announcement on Sept. 17.

Reed Smith announced Ms. Liza Craig, a former Senior Associate Counsel with the Department of the Navy Office of the General Counsel, has joined its Global Regulatory Enforcement Group as counsel in Washington, D.C.. Immediately prior to joining the firm, she served as the Acquisition Counsel to the 31st Chief of Naval Operations.

“Liza brings us exceptional experience and thought leadership in government procurement matters after a long career supporting senior Department of Defense clients on litigation and compliance matters,” said Michael Lowell, co-leader of the firm’s Global Regulatory Enforcement practice. “She has significant knowledge of procurement policies and issues and a wealth of connections in the government contracting community that will be valuable to our clients and enhance our practice.”

Ms. Craig’s practice will focus on government contracting and on all aspects of the procurement process --- including the proposal preparation and submission process, the resolution of disputes related to awards, administration, and termination of government contracts, and on matters related to contract compliance.

“Reed Smith’s government contracting practice and its global platform provide the ideal environment for me to leverage government procurement background, defense industry experience and network of legal, industry, and government contacts,” said Ms. Craig. “My long-term vision is to become a sought-after resource in the government contracts space and to contribute to the practice’s growth and expansion.”

Prior to beginning her legal career with the Department of the Navy, Ms. Craig served as a judicial law clerk to the Honorable Judge James Baker in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces.. A 2004 graduate of Catholic University of America Columbus School of Law, Craig has more than 15 years of experience in the defense industry. She also is a lecturer in mediation and government contracting at The George Washington University Law School. Ms. Craig received her undergraduate degree from Brown University.

Ms. Craig is the second addition to Reed Smith’s Washington, D.C. Global Regulatory enforcement practice this summer. Former partner Rizwan Qureshi returned to the group in July after a five-year stint in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia.

“We are delighted to welcome another talented attorney from the federal government to this office,” said A. Scott Bolden, Reed Smith’s Washington, D.C., Managing Partner. “Many of us know Liza’s work as a result of her strong presence in the acquisition and legal education communities, as well as from the D.C. Bar and the ABA. We look forward to her contribution to the firm.”
