McGuireWoods LLP issued the following announcement on April 10.
McGuireWoods partners Geoff Cockrell, Peter Covington, Vishwa Link and Rick Viola are singled out by corporate counsel for client service excellence in BTI Consulting Group’s 2019 Client Service All-Stars report.
The report honors lawyers who “demonstrate an unrelenting pursuit to find what best fulfills clients’ needs” and “have an unquenchable thirst to understand their clients better than all other attorneys.” All-Stars were selected based on unprompted feedback from more than 350 top legal decision makers at companies with $1 billion or more in annual revenue.
“In short, general counsel and legal decision makers say these 335 attorneys represent the epitome of client service,” the report said.
Cockrell, who chairs the firm’s nationally recognized private equity group, is a highly regarded M&A lawyer whose clients include private equity sponsors, strategic purchasers and sellers, and span a range of industries including healthcare, energy, agriculture and manufacturing. Based in Chicago, he frequently speaks at conferences and writes on issues involving the private equity industry as a Law360 contributor. He was nominated as an All-Star by a major agriculture company.
Covington of Charlotte, North Carolina, was recognized as a Client Service All-Star MVP because he is one of only 17 lawyers to make the elite list two or more years in a row. With more than 30 years’ experience handling complex commercial litigation, Covington focuses on securities and financial services matters. He was nominated by a global investment bank.
Link, based in Richmond, Virginia, chairs the firm’s regulatory and compliance practice. She represents electric and gas utility clients in rate, energy conservation and integrated planning proceedings and helps electric utility clients secure permits for generating plants and transmission lines before state regulatory agencies. She was nominated by a Fortune 1,000 electric services company.
Viola, a leading securities and capital markets lawyer in Charlotte, will become deputy managing partner for the firm’s corporate practice in May. During his tenure as co-leader of McGuireWoods’ financial institutions industry team, the firm earned nationwide recognition for its outstanding service to clients, including recognition as a “Banking Practice Group of the Year” by Law360 and “Law Firm of the Year” for banking and finance law by U.S. News-Best Lawyers’ “Best Law Firms.” A large chemical company nominated him for the All-Star honor.
“At McGuireWoods, we focus on understanding our clients’ business challenges and providing them with the best solutions. We are grateful to know clients value the know-how and commitment of these excellent lawyers,” said J. Tracy Walker IV, the firm’s managing partner. “We congratulate Geoff, Peter, Vishwa and Rick.”
