Thompson Coburn is proud to announce that Kyle Simpson, Senior Advisor, and Jack Jacobson, Advisor, have joined the Lobbying & Policy practice in our Washington, D.C., office. Both previously served as policy advisors for Hogan Lovells in D.C.

About Kyle and Jack
Kyle Simpson has been a leading voice in energy policy for more than 35 years.
As a former senior policy advisor and associate deputy secretary at the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), Kyle developed and oversaw domestic and international energy policy. In those roles, he was involved in major environmental initiatives and efforts to improve U.S. energy security. In particular, during his government service he led efforts to reduce the environmental impact of natural gas and oil production and increase the efficiency of refrigerators and other appliances, and spearheaded the effort to lift the ban on the export of crude oil produced from the Alaska North Slope.
Before joining the DOE, Kyle served as vice president of government relations and managed public policy across 36 states for Coastal Corporation, a $9 billion integrated independent energy company. Coastal owned and operated both ANR and CIG interstate natural gas pipelines, five oil refineries, and other petroleum processing facilities. Kyle also managed government relations for Brown & Root, Inc, now KBR, a global construction company; served as the energy coordinator for the state of Texas’ office in D.C.; and lobbied for the American Gas Association.
In recent years, Kyle has worked with companies to develop liquefied natural gas (LNG) export facilities, secure funding for R&D and bring new energy technologies to market, and prevent implementation of regulations that stifle innovation.
Jack Jacobson has two decades of experience helping clients succeed in Washington.
His clients have included a major U.S. city, a natural gas research consortium, a major energy efficiency manufacturing company, an international telecommunications company, and a public power system. Jack prides himself on immersing himself in his clients’ businesses and collaborating with them to develop comprehensive policy strategies.
Over the years, Jack has worked on policy related to emerging energy technologies, natural resources and environmental management, cannabis, municipal government, and education policy.
During his career, Jack also served in a public affairs role at a global government relations firm. Jack is uniquely suited to draw on his communications background to help clients develop compelling messages as a part of advancing their policy priorities.
Since 2013, Jack has served as an elected representative and is a former chair of the D.C. State Board of Education, which reviews and approves districtwide standards, policies, and requirements for all public schools. Jack is a member and former board member of Q Street, an association of more than 1,000 LGBTQ advocates and lobbyists.
