MORGAN LEWIS: Morgan Lewis Partner Elected a Fellow of the American College of Tax Counsel

Morgan Lewis issued the following announcement on Jan. 25.

Membership in the exclusive organization, which promotes sound tax policy and engages with the government on matters affecting the tax system, is reserved for “leading members of the bar who have made significant contributions to the understanding and improvement of our tax system.” Before being elected, fellows must be nominated by a current fellow and then undergo a rigorous screening process.

Alex advises tax-exempt organizations in planning, structuring, and transactional matters. He also represents taxpayers under audit, and helps organizations improve their governance and enhance their compliance. He counsels taxpayers seeking administrative guidance from the Internal Revenue Service and US Department of the Treasury, as well as on legislative matters with the US Congress.

A recognized thought leader on nonprofit tax issues, Alex is a frequent speaker and contributor to tax law journals and trade publications. He is regularly sought after for his insights and analyses of breaking tax law developments, particularly on tax reform’s impact on nonprofits. Alex is the new vice chair of Georgetown University Law Center’s annual tax-exempt organizations conference, and for the last three years he has served on the Independent Sector Public Policy Committee. In addition, he serves on the Legal Section Council of the American Society of Association Executives and the International Subcommittee of the Tax Exempt Organizations Committee of the American Bar Association. Alex is also the regulatory affairs chair of the TEGE Exempt Organizations Council and spearheads regulatory comment projects for the TEGE Council, ABA Tax Section, and other entities. Before joining Morgan Lewis, he served as legislation counsel for the Joint Committee on Taxation of the US Congress, where he advised lawmakers and staff on tax policy.
