TAMPA, Fla. (Legal Newsline) – A Hillsborough County, Florida man alleges Uber invaded his privacy with text messages.

Michael Glasgo filed a complaint individually and on behalf of others similarly situated on Jan. 12 in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida against Uber Technologies Inc. alleging violation of the Telephone Consumer Protection Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that beginning in June 2018, he received automatic text messages from the defendant with Uber codes. He alleges he replied to the messages with the word "stop," but the texts continued.

The plaintiffs hold Uber Technologies Inc. responsible because the defendant allegedly failed to honor opt-out requests and invaded his privacy.

The plaintiffs request a trial by jury and seek judgment against defendant for statutory damages, declaratory and injunctive relief, and other relief the court deems reasonable. He is represented by Scott D. Owens of Scott D. Owens PA in Hollywood, Florida and by Leo W. Desmond of the Desmond Law Firm in Vero Beach, Florida.
