General court 09

Wilentz Goldman & Spitzer issued the following announcement on Jan. 10.

On January 9, Wilentz, Goldman & Spitzer, P.A. Chairman John A. Hoffman was sworn in as Commissioner to the New Jersey State Commission of Investigation (SCI), an independent governmental agency established in 1968 to investigate organized crime, government waste and corruption. Appointed by New Jersey Assembly Speaker Craig J. Coughlin, Mr. Hoffman will serve a four-year appointment as Commissioner. He joins SCI Chairman Joseph F. Scancarella and Commissioners Rosemary T. Iannacone and Robert J. Burzichelli.

“John Hoffman brings a wealth of experience and institutional knowledge about New Jersey, and we expect he will be instrumental in helping us to continue to fulfill our statutory mission as the State’s premier independent government watchdog agency,” said Chairman Scancarella.

At Wilentz, Mr. Hoffman’s practice is focused in administrative and government law, energy law and in legal matters impacting redevelopment. He has represented numerous public agencies, including Middlesex County College, the New Brunswick Housing Authority and the Middlesex County Utilities Authority. He has also represented many major public utilities in regulatory proceedings and served as the co-chair of the Board of Public Utilities Transition Committee for former Governor James E. McGreevey. In 2017, Mr. Hoffman was appointed by Governor Chris Christie to serve as a commissioner on the New Jersey Racing Commission, a post he relinquished in order to devote his time to his new assignment at the SCI.
