Jones Day issued the following announcement on Jan. 4.
The global law firm Jones Day has announced that Ben Flowers, an associate in the Firm's Issues & Appeals Practice and its Columbus Office has been named State Solicitor for the Ohio Attorney General's Office.
"Ohioans will be well-served with Ben Flowers as state solicitor," Attorney General-elect Dave Yost said in a statement. "He has argued cases in appellate courts throughout the country, including the Ohio Supreme Court and the United States Supreme Court. I'm humbled that he is joining our team."
As State Solicitor, Mr. Flowers, who succeeds former Jones Day associate Eric Murphy, will represent the office in the state's major appellate cases. While at Jones Day, he has concentrated his practice on appellate litigation and complex trial-level motions. He has represented clients in numerous courts, including state and federal appellate courts and the Supreme Court of the United States, and has litigated a wide array of matters, including constitutional questions, jurisdictional disputes, and issues relating to product liability law, patent law, bankruptcy law, and more.
Prior to joining Jones Day in 2015, Mr. Flowers served as a law clerk to late U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia and to Judge Sandra Ikuta of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.
Mr. Flowers is an adjunct professor at The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law, where he co-teaches appellate advocacy. He is a member of the Ohio State Bar Association and the Columbus Bar Association.
