Jones Day issued the following announcement on Dec. 18.
Nicole Chipi, an associate in Jones Day's Miami Office, won the 2018 Brown Award for Excellence in Legal Writing for her paper, "Eat Your Vitamins and Say Your Prayers: Bollea v. Gawker, Revenge Litigation Funding, and the Fate of the Fourth Estate."
Ms. Chipi will receive $10,000, and a $5,000 donation will be made to the scholarship fund designated by University of Miami School of Law Dean Patricia White, who selected the paper for nomination.
Ms. Chipi's paper, published last year in the University of Miami Law Review, analyzed Silicon Valley billionaire Peter Thiel's clandestine legal campaign to take down Gawker Media.
Ms. Chipi graduated from UM's School of Law in May 2018.
The Brown Award, which recognizes excellence in legal writing, is open to all law students in accredited American law schools.
