Mayer Brown issued the following announcement on Nov. 28.

Mayer Brown announced that prominent appellate lawyer Nicole A. Saharsky has joined the firm as a partner in Washington DC, where she will serve as a co-leader of the Supreme Court & Appellate practice, along with Supreme Court advocate Andrew Pincus. Ms. Saharsky is a veteran of the Office of the Solicitor General at the US Department of Justice, where she served for 10 years as an assistant to the solicitor general. Most recently, she was a partner at Gibson Dunn.

“Nicole is among the leading women Supreme Court advocates in the US,” said Michael Lackey, the leader of Mayer Brown’s global Litigation & Dispute Resolution practice. “Having argued 29 closely watched cases before the Court, which is more cases than any woman in the last decade, Nicole is among the top advocates in the country. She will be a terrific addition to the firm’s premier appellate practice.”

During her tenure at the solicitor general’s office, Ms. Saharsky also briefed 45 cases on the merits and filed hundreds of certiorari-stage briefs and motions. Her cases involved a broad range of business issues, including securities, intellectual property, labor and employment, bankruptcy, personal jurisdiction and corporate criminal liability.

“Mayer Brown was the trailblazer in bringing to private practice the focused expertise and collegial structure of the solicitor general’s office,” said Ms. Saharsky. “I’m thrilled to join a talented team with a long track record of Supreme Court victories that have fundamentally shaped US jurisprudence.”

Before joining the solicitor general’s office, Ms. Saharsky was an associate in private practice. She also served as a Bristow Fellow in the solicitor general’s office and clerked for Judge Carolyn Dineen King of the US Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit.

“Nicole is nationally recognized as a top appellate lawyer and will be an invaluable resource as we continue to defend our clients’ interests at every level of the US judicial system,” said Mr. Pincus. “With her broad experience across so many different areas of the law – including securities litigation, labor and employment, intellectual property, bankruptcy, personal jurisdiction and data security – she will significantly enhance our already impressive appellate capabilities.”
