Pepper Hamilton announced that three lawyers have been named by Massachusetts Super Lawyers as top attorneys in the state for 2018. Thomas J. Engellenner has been named to the Massachusetts Super Lawyers list and Andrew W. Schultz and Callan G. Stein have been named to the Massachusetts Rising Stars list. All are resident in the firm’s Boston office. Each year, no more than 5 percent of the lawyers in Massachusetts are named to Super Lawyers and no more than 2.5 percent are named to Rising Stars.
Mr. Engellenner is a partner in the firm’s Intellectual Property Department. His practice includes patents, licensing, trademarks, copyrights and litigation. He has particular expertise in the fields of biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, analytical instruments and medical devices. Mr. Engellenner has more than 30 years of experience in prosecuting and litigating patents and advising clients generally on intellectual property strategies. His litigation experience includes patent infringement cases in the U.S. federal courts, and interference and reexamination proceedings at the U.S. Patent Office, as well as infringement and validity trials in Japan and Europe. Mr. Engellenner is a graduate of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (M.S. environmental studies and B.S. engineering). He earned his J.D. from Boston University School of Law.
Mr. Schultz is an associate in the firm’s Intellectual Property Department, focusing on intellectual property transactions and rights management. He works with well-established and nascent companies, universities, and independent inventors to identify and protect their intellectual property. His practice spans all aspects of patent law, including the preparation and prosecution of domestic and international patent applications, preparation of patentability and clearance opinions, and the representation of clients in adversarial post-grant proceedings before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Mr. Schultz is a 2008 graduate of The George Washington University Law School. He earned an M.E. in biomedical engineering from the University of Florida in 2004 and a B.S.E. in biomedical engineering from Duke University in 2003.
Mr. Stein is a partner in the Health Sciences Department and the White Collar Litigation and Investigations Practice Group. He focuses on white collar criminal defense, corporate and commercial civil litigation, internal investigations and health care litigation. Mr. Stein regularly defends corporations, corporate officers and directors, governmental and public employees, and other individuals accused of, or being investigated for, alleged white collar crimes. He also conducts internal investigations for corporate clients, including those in the health care industry. Mr. Stein earned his law degree from Boston University School of Law in 2007 and a B.A., cum laude, from Brandeis University in 2004.
