Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP announced that intellectual property attorney Siew Yen Chong, Ph.D., has joined the firm as of counsel in its New York office. She joins the firm’s growing life sciences practice based in Boston led by partners Amy Mandragouras and Jane Remillard.
Chong focuses her practice on the field of patent litigation and prosecution, as well as pre-litigation strategy counseling and freedom to operate analyses concerning application of the Biologics Act to biotherapeutic development programs. Her experience has included biologics and small-molecule (Hatch-Waxman) patent litigation, pre-suit investigations, opinions of counsel, IP due diligence, post-grant proceedings before the US Patent and Trademark Office, and domestic and foreign patent prosecution. Some of the technologies she has worked with include monoclonal antibodies, HIV antivirals, DNA sequencing, and other aspects of the life sciences.
Before beginning her legal career, Chong was a scientist at a multinational pharmaceutical company, where she focused on the development of candidate vaccines targeted to bacterial and viral diseases. She is experienced in the design of immunogenicity and in vivo challenge studies, and development of animal models for the evaluation of pre- clinical candidate vaccines.
She earned her JD from Rutgers University School of Law, her Ph.D. from the University of Medicine & Dentistry of New Jersey, and a B.S. in Pathology and Immunology, summa cum laude from Upsala College.
