Partnership

Orrick issued the following announcement on Sept. 26.

The City of Seattle is launching its first ever Innovation Advisory Council to bring together the most innovative thinkers from Seattle’s tech community to help solve the City’s most pressing problems. Orrick is excited to support this effort with the appointment of Aravind Swaminathan, the global co-chair of our Cyber, Privacy and Data Innovation practice group, as a member of the Council.

Mayor Jenny A. Durkan announced the formation of the Council last week, naming Seattle’s biggest tech companies as members, Amazon, Microsoft and Expedia among them.

As a strategic cybersecurity advisor, Aravind brings a unique skill set to the Council’s focus on applying data and tech solutions to problems such as homelessness, affordability and transportation.

“I am thrilled to help the City tackle Seattle’s greatest challenges, from addressing the growing homeless problem to providing greater access to City services through the use of innovative technologies,” says Aravind. “As the City looks to technology-based solutions, there will be an greater need to consider how these technologies impact citizens’ privacy and security, and I’m looking forward to lending the deep privacy and cybersecurity expertise we have developed, having helped some of the world’s most innovative companies solve similar challenges.”
