By Mark Iandolo | Apr 2, 2018

BULLHEAD CITY, Ariz. (Legal Newsline) — Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich has announced that Malows Jet Ski Rentals LLC and owner Mahriar Akbari will pay $100,000 after allegations of making misleading and false claims while advertising its services to consumers.

According to allegations, Malows advertises its jet skis as being for rent for “$65 ALL DAY” yet actually charged consumers as much as $299 for renting jet skis on Fridays, weekends and holidays. To settle the allegations, Malows will pay consumer restitution, as well as civil penalties amounting to $40,000, plus attorney fees and costs amounting to $20,000. Additionally, Malows and Akbari will make changes to the company’s business practices to avoid deceptive marketing in the future.

“Malows misled Arizona consumers and we’re holding them accountable,” Brnovich said in a statement. “Consumers should always conduct online research and read independent customer reviews before giving a business their hard-earned money.”

Handling the case for Arizona was assistant attorney general Alyse Meislik.

The settlement must be approved in court before it is finalized.
