CHICAGO (Legal Newsline) – The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) has announced that Niemann Foods Inc., which does business as County Market Store No. 224, will pay $300,000 over allegations of sexual harassment.
EEOC claims allege that Niemann subjected a class of female employees to sexual harassment. Specifically, it allegedly did nothing to stop unwelcome physical contact to female employees.
"Sex harassment continues to be a constant issue in American workplaces," Julianne Bowman, director of EEOC's Chicago District Office, said. "We are pleased that Niemann Foods was willing to work with EEOC to address issues of harassment and discrimination in its workplace. By reaching this agreement, the company is demonstrating its commitment to providing its employees with a work environment free of discrimination and harassment."
The monetary settlement will be split among the alleged discrimination victims. Niemann Foods will also provide annual training to its employees through a third-party consultant. It will give updates to EEOC on any complaints of sex discrimination, harassment or retaliation in the future.
