BOSTON (Legal Newsline) – Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey announced that Truong-Thinh Market Inc. and its president, Joseph Pham, will pay more than $100,000 over allegations it violated state wage laws.
Truong-Thinh Market allegedly did not properly pay its employees and failed to maintain required payroll records. It will pay $84,000 in restitution to workers and more than $21,000 in state penalties.
“This business took advantage of its workers by failing to pay them the appropriate hard-earned wages they were entitled to,” Healey said. “We will continue to advocate on behalf of Massachusetts workers to make sure they know their rights and don’t fall victim to unfair and exploitative employment practices.”
From September 2013 to August, a total of seven employees were given salaries below minimum wage, according to the attorney general’s office’s claims. Employees were paid in cash and the amount received did not match with the hours worked, which were often well over 40. The state’s overtime law requires employers to pay time and one half regular pay for all hours over 40.
Assistant Attorney General Lisa Price and Investigator Christina Lopez of Healey’s Fair Labor Division handled the case.
