TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Legal Newsline) – A $26.75 million multi-state settlement has been reached with waste disposal company Stericycle after allegations of violating false claims acts in 12 states, announced Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi's office.
The violations stemmed from alleged improper fuel and energy subcharges for government customers.
The settlement includes violations from the states of California, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Nevada, New Jersey, North Carolina, Rhode Island, Tennessee, the Commonwealths of Massachusetts and Virginia, the District of Columbia, and the federal government. This settlement resolves a qui tam lawsuit filed in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Illinois.
Florida and Illinois will receive the largest settlements with $2,377,993 and $4,026,984 respectively. The allocation of the settlement funds was determined by government entities with no input from Stericycle.
