ALBANY, N.Y. (Legal Newsline) - New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman reached a settlement with PATH Medical, Inc. on Thursday over allegations that the Manhattan health care provider participated in deceptive business practices.
Owned by Dr. Eric Braverman, the medical practice now will provide patients with accurate costs for their medical procedures as part the agreement, which was reached after patients complained that they allegedly received inaccurate information about how much their medical expenses would cost, as well as how much of the costs their insurance providers would cover.

“Patients cannot make informed decisions about their medical care if their health provider misleads them about the cost of that care, including the reimbursement they can expect from their insurance plans,” Schneiderman said. “My office is committed to pursuing transparency in health care pricing so patients can make medical decisions without inadvertently placing themselves in a precarious financial position. We will take action when providers mislead patients about the cost of care.”
As part of its preventative medicine plan, PATH allegedly would do extensive and expensive testing on patients, ranging from a few hundred dollars to $100,000. The medical provider allegedly would lead consumers to believe their insurance companies would cover up to 80 percent of the costs even though though the office isn't part of any in-network health care plans.
