COLUMBUS, Ohio (Legal Newsline) - Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine filed a lawsuit on Wednesday against an Akron area roofer who allegedly didn't provide promised services.
Joseph Allen, who owns A Ki Restoration LLC, allegedly violated consumer protection laws. There were 24 complaints filed by consumers who had combined losses of approximately $100,000 after hiring Allen to repair or replace storm-damaged roofs.
“This contractor was in clear violation of Ohio’s consumer laws,” DeWine said. “He took payment for work that he never completed as promised and he didn’t provide refunds. We want to recover funds for consumers who lost money and stop further violations.”
Allen walked door-to-door to offer his roofing services. Customers would pay a deposit to Allen, but he allegedly wouldn't begin or finish the work. He also allegedly didn't refund customers' money.
These practices violate the Ohio Home Solicitation Sales Act and Ohio's Consumer Sales Practices Act.
DeWine is seeking restitution, civil penalties and an injuction against Allen to stop future violations of consumer protection laws.
The Attorney General's Office reminds consumers to research companies and get multiple bids before signing a contract with home improvement contractors.
