TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Legal Newsline) – Former Republican Gov. Charlie Crist will not return to the office as a Democrat, as incumbent GOP Gov. Rick Scott has won re-election.
The polls never showed a clear-cut leader and the race continued to prove to be a tight one Tuesday.
With 99 percent of the precincts reporting, Scott had landed 2,838,629 votes for 48 percent, while Crist had captured 2,758,576 votes for 46.92 percent.
Attorneys were a staple of Crist’s funding throughout his campaign, helping him raise tens of millions of dollars.
The race even drew the attention of Texas trial lawyers, with Houston attorney Steve Mostyn donating more than $700,000 to Crist.
Despite receiving strong support from the law community, Crist often made remarks throughout his campaign that he was running against Scott’s $100 million war machine.
