LANSING, Mich. (Legal Newsline) – The Michigan Chamber of Commerce has announced its endorsement of three candidates for the Michigan Supreme Court.
The Michigan Chamber is backing incumbent justices David F. Viviano and Brian K. Zahra and Kent County Circuit Court Judge James Robert Redford, according to a Wednesday press release.
"A stable, predictable legal climate is a key factor in Michigan's economic competitiveness," said Rich Studley, Chamber president & CEO. "Viviano, Zahra and Redford are experienced and capable judges who believe in separation of powers and will not legislate from the bench."
The Democratic Party's candidates for the two eight year terms are Richard Bernstein and William Murphy. Deborah Thomas, Circuit Court Judge, Wayne County is the party's candidate for the two year term.
"At the Michigan Chamber, we know from experience that job providers can win public policy battles in the legislature only to lose the war in court," said Jim Holcomb, general counsel for the Michigan Chamber. "The three candidates we've endorsed are independent, intelligent and fair-minded jurists with strong track records of accomplishment."
The Michigan Chamber of Commerce is a statewide business organization representing approximately 6,600 employers, trade associations and local chambers of commerce.
